Day 1: Edinburgh – PortreeMeet your guide and board your coach along the Royal Mile in Old Town Edinburgh, then head north to the Scottish Highlands and the forested mountains of Perthshire. You'll visit the quaint village of Dunkeld with its historic cathedral sitting on the banks of the River Tay.

It’s then further north and west deeper into the stunning scenery of the Highlands before you enter the Great Glen. At Fort Augustus, there is time to explore the shores of Loch Ness and maybe get a chance to spot the famed monster Nessie. Visit one of the most romantic castles in the region, Eilean Donan Castle, before traveling to your accommodation on the magical Isle of Skye.

Overnight: 3-star hotel or B&B in Portree

Day 2: Isle of Skye (B)Your day is spent exploring the scenery, history and natural beauty of the legendary Isle of Skye. Hear tales of Bonnie Prince Charlie and his failed rebellion, see evocative ruined castles and the eerie scenery of the rugged Cuillin Mountains. Stroll through the scenic capital, Portree, then travel to the island's north past the cliffs and rock formations of Trotternish Ridge, including the Old Man of Storr.

Overnight: 3-star hotel or B&B in Portree

Day 3: Portree – Mallaig – Fort William – Edinburgh (B)Begin with a tour of the island's south, named 'the garden of Skye,' before taking the ferry to Mallaig. Explore this busy west coast fishing village, then ride the West Highland Railway Line of the Jacobite steam train, one of the most spectacular railway journeys in the world made famous as the Hogwarts Express featured in the Harry Potter films. Along the way to Fort William, you'll cross Glenfinnan Viaduct and see the location where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard at the start of the failed Jacobite campaign.

The return coach journey from Fort William takes in the mysterious beauty of Glencoe and Rannoch Moor, skirting The Trossachs and Rob Roy country before you arrive back in Edinburgh in the evening.

Traveler Reviews

We were on a two week tour of Scotland and England and the highlight of the entire trip was our three day guided tour of the Isle of Skye and the Scottish Highlands. What made the trip so outstanding was due in large part to our tour guide, Tony. His knowledge of the countryside, the history of Scotland and its origins and the historical characters that played such a defining role in its past were just mind-boggling. his knowledge was so complete that we felt like we had gotten a college degree in Scottish history by the time the tour was over. He took us to so many historical sites during our three days that we felt like we had covered everything of importance there was to see and that we had a real appreciation for what the real Scotland is all about. Tony's easy going manner and eagerness to answer any questions we had made it such a pleasurable experience. I can't recommend this tour highly enough.
