Learn all about the archaeological, historical and cultural significance of this ancient capital of the Mayan Empire – a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the new Seven Wonders of the World – as your guide conducts a 2-hour group tour of the temples. See the 78-foot (24-meter) high Pyramid of Kukulcán and the Temple of the Warriors, as well as the ball court, observatory and nunnery.
Afterward, check into your accommodation at the Mayaland Hotel or bungalow; the exclusive resort is a multiple Condé Nast Traveler magazine winner and has been a National Geographic favorite since 1936. Then, enjoy a delicious, buffet-style lunch of Mexican, Yucatecan and international cuisine and be entertained with traditional Yucatan music and dance performances by the Mayaland Regional Ballet.
In the afternoon, return to Chichen Itza at your own pace if you choose, making sure to visit the well-preserved smaller temples in the vicinity. Or, stay on the resort grounds for a dip into the pools or a stroll through the hotel’s mile-long botanical gardens, which host a variety of native tropical plants.
In the evening, you'll have free time to do as you please - explore the grounds of the Mayaland resort or simply stargaze from your hammock and search for constellations in the quiet darkness of night.
Overnight: Mayaland Resort Hotel and Bungalows in Chichen Itza
Day 2: Chichen Itza – CancunSpend your day however you wish, choosing from a variety of options during your free time. Enroll in a Mayan cooking class in the morning (own expense) or revisit the temple site for more photo opportunities.
You’re free to use the pools and other facilities at Mayaland Resort, relaxing amid the beautiful and scenic surroundings, or head to the sacred Xtoloc Cenote, also located on the resort grounds (no swimming permitted).
Be Maya Planetarium upgrade option:Before returning to your Cancun hotel in the late evening, stop by Be Maya Planetarium, where you'll listen to stories of the ancient Maya civilization and tales of the Maya skies. Learn about Mayan science, art and mythology while observing the starry sky of the planetarium and let it transport you back into ancient Mayan times.
