We got pick up from the hotel as scheduled and transported to the Hato Bus terminal, from where we took the tour bus.
We ride for about 2 hours until we reach the Nikko Tosho-gu temple. We took this tour during the month of January, however I would strongly recommend to do it during spring or summer. As to get inside some part of the temple is required to take off your shoes, the outside cold make it a little uncomfortable.
After Nikko Tosho-gu temple, we took lunch at a Japanese restaurant. The lunch was very delicious.
We did a brief stop at Lake Chuzenji. The scenery if great, but we had not spend too much time outside due to low temperatures.
The last stop was at Kegon Falls. I recommend to take the elevator to the lower level. Around the parking area, souvenir shops and restaurants can be found.
The bus ride back to Tokyo took another 2 hours. We end our tour at Shinjuku area in Tokyo.

A beautiful trip into snow that provided a more extensive understanding into Japanese culture and traditions. Pick up was organised for us directly from our hotel foyer and the guide was highly organised and knowledgable.

Nikko was a very special day for us. The temples were beautiful, the path up and down the mountain was breath taking, the lunch was traiditional, and the lake and waterfall stops we made were one for the books. While yes, the trip is a bit rushed because time is limited, i do believe once you get back to Tokyo at 7pm you realize the stops are perfectly timed. It is a good daytrip, easy because the meal is provided and the tour guides are knowledgeable. I totally recommend going to Nikko as part of your Japan trip. Whether you book this tour or not it is an amazing little town with lots of history.

This is a long day, but very worth it. Felt like you got a real chance to get away from the city and see some of real Japan. The trip back was 4 hours on the bus traffic is awful, and is aways bad so only do this if you want the very long day. Advice - get the back seats of the bus if they are free to sleep out on.
