  • Excellent value for money
Create your own authentic Italian pizza and learn how to make gelato during this Florence cooking class. Italians take their food very seriously, and before you start cooking, you must understand some pizza basics. Pizza Margherita got its name from Italy’s Queen Margherita, who in the late 19th century in Naples was served a pizza resembling the Italian flag – red tomatoes, white mozzarella and green basil. The beloved Italian pizza as we know it today was born.

Today, Italians make variety of pizzas from different regions. While toppings and cheeses may vary from region to region, the culinary rule of using fresh, local ingredients remains the same throughout the country. This cooking class will give you the opportunity to create and bake your own Italian pizza.

Then it’s on to dessert, as you learn how to make authentic Italian gelato. While similar to ice cream found elsewhere in the world, gelato does have some differences, including a generally lower butterfat content and a freezing process that creates a denser, more flavorful product. During the cooking class, you will learn the process of making gelato, tasting the creations as you go.

As you are guided through the stages of both pizza- and gelato-making with a professional chef, you’ll learn valuable tips and hints that you can take home for future cooking. Impress your friends after your trip with your newfound Italian cooking skills!

This was so much fun! The chef was a great personality, everyone in the class seemed to be having a blast! He pulled the kids to the front to make the gelato after we had all made our own pizza, our son was smiling ear to ear. We really enjoy cooking at home and this was a great tutorial on making perfect pizza crust. Different from the typical tourist stuff and really worth your time if you like to cook!

We are a Canadian family with three children ages 7, 9, 12 and I can say, without hesitation, that this was a highlight of our time in Florence. The kids LOVED it and we did too. Florenzo and Alex Alessandro did a wonderful job of keeping everyone engaged, amused and interested. They catered the information to both the children and the adults with good humour and lots of simple instruction. Our kids loved making their own pizzas and gelato and we left with very full tummies. In fact, it was the best pizza that we've eaten in Italy so far if I do say so myself. This is great value - a 3 hours class, great instructors, a full meal with wine tasting and dessert and a recipe book and 'diploma' to take away with you. You won't regret it...this is good times.
