There are 10 themed areas at Taronga Zoo including Wild Australia, Wild Asia and the new Great Southern Oceans where you can see animals living in unique displays imitating their natural habitats and offering spectacular viewing for visitors.
If you would like an up close and personal experience, Taronga Zoo offers animal encounters (at an additional cost) with animals such as koalas, giraffes and reptiles. You'll get the chance to meet these beautiful creatures and take home a souvenir photograph.
Education Officers at Sydney Taronga Zoo can offer people of all ages a wildly different learning experience, allowing you to get face to face with live animals. Learning about the various animals and plants in their environments helps to increase your awareness, develop an understanding as well as build a positive attitudes towards wildlife. A visit to Sydney Taronga Zoo gives both young and old alike the skills, and enthusiasm, to actively participate in the care and conservation of flora and fauna in their own communities.
Sydney Taronga Zoo was officially opened on October 7th, 1916. Since then the zoo has conducted 33 conservation breeding programs, 11 recovery programs, 10 in situ conservation partnerships and is involved in a further 10 major research programs for conservation. The zoo is a not-for-profit organization and continues to maintain proud international reputations for animal care and conservation.

How to get to Taronga ZooThe easiest way to get to the zoo is by ferry. Not only is it convenient but a great way to see the spectacular Sydney Harbour. Ferries depart from Wharf 2 at Circular Quay every 30 minutes.
Once you have arrived at Taronga Wharf, take the Sky Safari gondola for a ride high over the zoo grounds. over looking Sydney's most famous landmarks and giving you a bird's-eye view over the zoo inhabitants, ending at the top entrance of the zoo. Alternatively you can take the zoo bus service that meets every ferry.

Located inside the main entrance and offers a range of sandwiches, wraps, pastries, coffee and drinks
Taronga Zoo also has many picnic areas, so bring a picnic basket and enjoy lunch with views overlooking Sydney Harbour
