Old Melbourne Gaol
Take a step back in time and walk the road to the gallows of a 19th-century prison. Built in the 1839, the jail stood as a symbol of authority as it was where the colony’s most dangerous criminals were held. More than 130 hangings were carried out here, including Australia's most famous criminal, Ned Kelly. Learn what it was like for the men and women who lived and died here, visit the former watch house and experience being arrested in an environment unchanged since the police and inmates left in the mid-1920s.
