Great trip. Enjoyed the set tour with the guide (Uncle Ben) who had worked on the set during filming so had a wealth of stories. He was great fun. The variety of souvenirs in the shop is a bit limited.

We did an afternoon tour from Rotorua. Well organized and lot of fun, even if our bus broke down some 20 km's before we got to to Hobbiton (returned to Rotorua in a "historic" bus!) The set was what we expected, but the shop is quite disappointing - it's really too small ,and has very limited selection, mainly a few Hobbit- items for sale. I would imagine most visitors are interested in older LOTR- stuff as well, or at least we were...

Great fun.... A hobbit like feast of Food would have topped it off and I would gladly have paid for :-P many opportunities for great pics

There wasn't a sheep shearing demonstration, or the opportunity to hand feed lambs, or a light snack either. Despite this, the Hobbit set tour was incredible and should not be missed by anyone remotely interested in the LOTR books or movies. It would have been a 5 star rating if the tour included everything that was advertised, and it wouldn't have hurt for the bus to have cleanish windows to take a few photos through - just like normal tourists do!

As we pass by the land, we get to enjoy a beautiful scenery of lush green and peaceful air. Sheep everywhere! The guide was friendly and gave lots of interesting facts regarding filming and the area. Hobbiton itself was a wonderful little place and it did feel like a little village. I loved the details in the props. Like all guided tours, although she gave us time to take pictures, I still wished it was a bit longer. When we came back to the rest stop, everything became pretty rushed. We didn't get a sheep shearing demonstration as mentioned, though that could be due to time of the year, and the bottle provided had only enough for maybe 2-4 people to hand feed the lambs, although I did enjoy getting to hold one. Afterwards I barely had enough time to go through the gift shop before we were being rushed back to Rotorua. But overall I really enjoyed the experience.

Very touristy. Too large a group - a bus load made it difficult to take photos . Only rabbit holes to see. Would not recommend. Morning tea and sheep shearing were cancelled without prior warning.
