Monticello and Thomas Jefferson Country Day Trip from Washington DC

Well worth the trip, great driver and a great lunch [Southern-style buffet!]. Lots to take in and a good amount of time to explore the site. We went in summer [July], so there were lots of flowers in bloom and the weather was nice.

The whole experience was excellent from departure to return. Coach was an excellent ride, the driver - the one and only Wayne superb! A very pleasant trip. Enjoyed the scenery on the way and the excursions before arrival at Monticello. We can understand why Jefferson built his home where he did as the views were spectacular. The one downside that was outside of the tour operators control was that the house tour was too rushed. We only had 20 minutes inside the home to explore but hours to see outbuildings and gardens. Would have appreciated more time inside. However, a great trip and memorable one. Steffan and Cheryl

Great trip. We first stopped at an old time, Mishers Tavern and went thru all the rooms and out buildings.
We then ate at the on-site, all you can eat restaurant. The cooking was like Grandma used to make, especially the fried chicken and black eyed peas!
We then proceeded to Monticello. We watched a movie first then proceeded up to the house. The tour guide was very knowledgeable, and enjoyed answering all of our questions. It is amazing the ingenuity that was put into this house (along with Washington's Mount Vernon). We went thru many of the rooms on the main house and the out buildings, then had tome to explore on our own.

This tour was great. The drive from DC was beautiful and there was plenty of time to see and do everything at Monticello. I had plenty of time to take the Mulberry Row Tour and walk down to Jefferson's grave. The food at Michie Tavern was fantastic also. I would highly recommend this day trip for an awesome day out of Washington DC.

This was a fantastic tour. I didn't realize Monticello is close to three hours from DC so i was glad not to be driving. The bus driver gave us very nice commentary on our way out of the city then showed us an excellent documentary on Jefferson. this filled up the time and prepared us for tour. You get a ticket that tells you what time your tour of the house will be, then you can spend the rest of the time seeing what you want to see. I could have used a little more time there but I don't see how that could happen given how far Monticello is from DC. The visit to the tavern was unexpectedly interesting and the lunch was very good.
