Wonderful experience! Don't forget to bring along a bottle of wine.Reviewed by: Laurie L, November 2013
This was a very pleasant experience, the Gondolas are lovely crafts, and I was in the one with the serenaders. The accordionist played a variety of pop classic tunes, and then the tenor stood and sang excellently, such songs as A Gondolier, and Volare.
As it was 6.30, darkness fell, and so it was like a night tour also. As we entered the smaller canals from the Grand Canal, the footbridges lent an enchanting echo to the singer's voice, and diners at the cafe's above took photographs. It was very dark in some areas, but the flash from cameras illuminated the musicians spasmodically, and I managed to capture some quite a memorable video shots. Excellent.
It had been raining during our allotted time and my group of 6 including myself didn't want to go while raining. So the gondolier suggested we wait a while. So we went and had cappuccino and pastries and after abt an hour the rain stopped and we decided to go back. This was my first time in Venice and I wasn't going to miss out on this experience. The gondola was a bit wet but I savored the moment! The only thing I didn't like and diminished the experience was that the gondolier was on his cell phone most of the time talking and texting while steering the gondola as were the other gondoliers in our group of boats. That we all did not enjoy...diminished the experience.Reviewed by: Rebecca, November 2013
Gondoliers very offhand. I thought it was snowing until I realised it was the ash from his cigarette. Booking emphasised being there 15 minutes beforehand and taking photographic ID. Rubbish, we were asked for the booking form only just as we boarded the gondola. Music was nice, but not exactly the romantic trip you expect.
Not sure how much the individual guys asked, but for the price we paid I suggest bartering with them.Reviewed by: Kay M, November 2013
