Itinerary:
Day 1: Frankfurt -- Eisenach -- Weimar -- Leipzig (D)
You'll be picked up from Frankfurt in the morning and driven east to Eisenach, dominated by imposing Wartburg Castle. Here, visit one of the most important buildings in German history and see the room where Martin Luther translated the New Testament in just 11 weeks.

Continue to a cultural treasure, Weimar, where numerous famous people including Goethe, Schiller, Liszt and Richard Strauss have lived and worked. Afterwards, you'll head to today’s final Christmas destination: Leipzig.

After check-in at your Leipzig hotel, visit one of Germany's largest Christmas markets. The market's main attraction is a Christmas tree adorned in thousands of lights, located in the historical market square in front of the old town hall.

Stroll past stalls selling various handcrafted items from the surrounding region, and feel free to purchase any items that catch your eye. This is a perfect opportunity to do some last-minute Christmas shopping! Sink your teeth into a typical German snack, a bratwurst (sausage), and warm up with some hot spiced wine called gluehwein.

Overnight: Seaside Hotel or similar in Leipzig

Day 2: Leipzig -- Meissen -- Dresden (B)
After breakfast at your hotel, your guide will take you to Meissen, where you'll visit one of Germany’s oldest porcelain factories, founded in the 18th century. See the exhibition hall and the demonstration workshops where the painting and glazing process happens. As you'll learn on your tour, the delicate handmade products made here can be found in royal courts and celebrity homes all around the world!

Your journey continues to Dresden, the capital of the Free State of Saxony. On your comprehensive city tour, you'll get an overview of one of the loveliest cities in central Europe. Due to its mild climate, Baroque architecture and renowned museums, Dresden is also called 'Florence of the Elbe.'

See main sights such as the Semper Opera House, the Baroque-era Zwinger and the restored Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady). After your tour, check in at your hotel and relax a bit before gearing up for your German Christmas market tour in the evening.

Your guide will take you to the Christmas market called Striezelmarkt, named after the local cake, striezel. Marvel at the giant Christmas pyramid and take time to explore the numerous stalls where you can taste local delicacies (own expense).

Overnight: Park Inn or similar in Dresden

Day 3: Dresden -- Annaberg -- Schneeberg -- Plauen (B, D)
Fuel up with breakfast at your hotel before heading out on the country roads to several charming, ancient German towns. Stop in Seiffen, a center of the wooden toy industry, and two ancient miner-villages, Schneeberg and Annaberg.

These towns are typical in the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains) and are home to the German tradition of woodcarving and Christmas pyramids. As your guide will explain, in old times, light – represented by candles – was an important symbol of life and safety for miners working in the dark tunnels. The woodcarvers combined their deep religious beliefs and used candles to illuminate the pyramids, and decorated them with saints as symbols of the holy night.

In Annaberg, visit a Christmas market that dates back to 1510, and in Schneeberg, visit St Wolfgang’s Church, whose altar dates back to 1539.

In the afternoon, continue driving to Plauen, famous for its handcrafted lace. Plauen was founded in 1122 and since the 16th century has been an important center for cotton manufacturing. In the evening, enjoy a farewell dinner at your hotel with your fellow travelers.

Overnight: Hotel Dormero or similar in Plauen

Day 4: Plauen -- Bamberg -- Frankfurt (B)
Start your morning with breakfast at your hotel before packing up and traveling through the Franconian forest to the imperial city of Bamberg, founded in the 9th century. See the city's nicely preserved Old Town, which was declared UNESCO World Heritage Site, and see the cathedral and former Benedictine abbey of Michaelsberg.

You'll have time in Bamberg to do some last-minute shopping before heading through the rolling hills of Franconia back to Frankfurt, where your journey ends in the late afternoon.
