Here is a selection of the most recent reviews of the Guangzhou (Canton) China Day Trip from Hong Kong submitted by actual travelers. Read what travelers liked, what they loved, and what they thought could be improved.
Local HK Tour East company went far beyond our expectations in arranging our trip and sending info to our hotel before our arrival. Alex our tour guide was excellent and Albert, who joined us in China continued the informative commentary throughout our day. Ben, the bus driver did an outstanding job in some very congested traffic. A very good, value for money first tour into China. Thank you!Reviewed by: F.M. M, December 2013
A mixture of feelings about this trip. It was interesting to visit China, the easy w ay- we had tried getting a tourist visa, but found it quite a daunting exercise, and the guides were most helpful and informative. They went to considerable trouble to arrange for our son, who works in Guangzhou, to join us for lunch and 'tag along' on the subsequent tour. The contrast between China and Hong Kong was quite striking, particularly in the general order and cleanliness of the latter compared with the more chaotic, scruffier nature of old GZ. We , personally, would have been happy to skip the jade/terracotta warriors exhibition (we have seen a larger, better, display in the British Museum and were not interested in buying jade ). We also felt that, whilst interesting for 'photo opportunities' the visit to the childrens' nursery was a bit of an imposition on the staff of the nursery and one sensed their resentment at our intrusion into their planned activities. Viewing two sleepy pandas was also not a very memorable experience. If they were to be on the itinerary, why could we not have seen a better set up at the GZ Zoo, which our son says is well worth a visit ? We also did not see the best of GZ, missing totally the new, modern parts with Opera House, Canton Tower etc. Skipping the detour into Schenzen would have allowed more time to do these things and would have got us to our lunch date rather earlier than 15.00 hours !! Despite these caveats, we are glad that we took the trip.Reviewed by: MICHAEL B, December 2013
When we read the description of this tour it said see the terracotta warriors and there horses and see an adorable panda at a safari park, sounded fantastic so we booked it. 3 warriors and a horse which we were rushed past were a lure to get us into a large shop that tried very hard to sell us jade. Were we on the right tour the whole bus was wondering? 2 pandas in a zoo was to follow and 5 mins to view them. The rest of the tour was as described and our guides of Alex and Albert were fantastic. The stone faced custom officers at the boarded were a sight to see.Reviewed by: Christine T, November 2013
Half of this tour was spent in Shekou/Shenzhen. The Terracotta warriors was a waste of time. Panda stop was marginal. Best of this tour was Canton walking through the old sections which may not be there in the future due to development. This tour should have spent more time in Canton. The ride back to Hong Kong was on one of the newer trains. This was an easy way to experience urban China without getting a visa.Reviewed by: Martin W. J, November 2013
A very long day with lots of travelling for very little. The boat ride was ordinary as unable to take any good photos due to dirty/wet windows and no access to outside. The plug for the Terracotta warriors was just that - as only 3 statues and a horse behind glass - for a short time (also no photos) and then a long time while they tried to sell us Jade etc in a different room. The 2 Pandas just OK as had to fight with hundreds of others to view them and try to photo through reflective glass.Reviewed by: Stephen R, October 2013
