A terrific day out with Angelica and Mara, our two guides. Lots of interesting nformation given on the way there, which I really appreciated. There is quite a lot of walking to get to the top of Vesuvius, but I was determined to get there - unfortunately, it's rather tricky coming back down because the gravelly stones can slide under your feet, so do make sure you are wearing good shoes - flip-flops just won't work.
After a slightly later than planned lunch, we went to Pompeii which was the absolute highlight of the trip. It is just incredible and the guide brought it to life for us so well - I just wish we had had longer there. It was much bigger than I had anticipated, and so well-preserved that you really feel that it couldn't possibly be nearly 2000 years since it was covered in ash.
I can't wait to go back!
Fantastic day trip! Thoroughly enjoyed both Mount Vesuvius and Pompeii due to the brilliant guides, who were very friendly and informative. Only downside we felt was the lunch due to the service. Apart from that a very long but enjoyable day!Reviewed by: Miss Megan L J, April 2014
Very knowledgeable guides and a great trip all around.Reviewed by: Wm A H, April 2014
I loved the fact that the guides were able to tell us about interesting history while we were driving but also gave us quiet time on the journey as well. I also enjoyed having a guide in Pompeii to touch on all the points of interest so we didn't have to have the feeling of wandering aimlessly. Also on the way back our guides gave us some tips into where to eat during our stay in Rome, like how to find a more local eatery as opposed to a more tourist eatery to get the full authentic experience and other tidbits on how to experience Rome as a local. Just all in all a fantastic tour. Just FYI that the hike up to the rim of the Volcano is suuuuper steep, nothing can be done about that but just be prepared!Reviewed by: Rachel O'C, Canada, April 2014
