From this well-known Venice attraction, walk with your guide through the city’s lesser-known streets, discovering Venice as the locals know it. Your route includes several campos, meaning 'fields' in Italian, which are actually lively Venetian squares and courtyards, surrounded by shops and cafes. Pass through Campo San Polo, the setting of masked balls and bullfighting in bygone times, and Campo San Margherita, the social heart of Venice's trendy Dorsoduro district.
See the Basilica dei Frari, notable for the Venetian Renaissance artwork that is housed within, and pass the grand Scuola Grande di San Rocco building, where many a Venice concert is held. As your walking tour comes to an end, hear the story of Peggy Guggenheim, whose impressive modern art collection is housed in the nearby Peggy Guggenheim Collection.
Your tour finishes on a high note, with a romantic 40-minute gondola ride along the Venice canals. As your gondolier punts you through the quieter city canals aboard a traditional, wooden gondola boat, look out for the beautiful houses lining the water, and see local ladies reeling in their washing lines.

We did this tour in the morning - a nice time - not too crowded with people and easier to see the sites. This is a wonderful way to see and wander through some of the streets (calles and fondements) of Venice and learn some history at the same time. This tour walked us through the neighbourhoods of Dorsoduro and San Polo followed by a relaxing Gondola ride through the smaller canals of San Marco. Our walking guide, Francesca (with the blonde, longer hair), was quite sweet and funny with an extensive knowledge of the area. I recommend this tour and Francesca.
