Renoir, the great impressionist artist, lived in Montmartre. Monet, Degas and Van Gogh all lived or worked on the Butte.

Make your way up the hill past Au Lapin Agile, which actually began as a cabaret, but became the meeting place of the fathers of Modern Art. Just before World War I many artists and writers such as Picassso, Modigliani, Utrillo, Derain and Apollinaire lived nearby and would meet here. The interior has not changed over the years and has a flavor of Montmartre as it was at the turn of the century when it was a favorite of local artists and "bohemians".

Pass the vineyards still producing wine today and off to the main square of Montmartre, the Place de Tertres, which is famous the world over for its outdoor cafes and artists. No visit to Montmartre, or Paris for that matter, is complete without a stop at Sacre Coeur to see a magnificent view over the rooftops of Paris.

Continue past the famous restaurant and windmill, Moulin la Galette made famous by Renoir's painting. The restaurant was once a favorite of the famous French entertainer and gay icon, Dalida.

You'll see the cafe where the very successful movie Amelie, was filmed. The movie is, for the most part, set in Montmartre and then on to your wine tasting. At the end of the tasting you can stay for dinner or wander down to the bottom of the hill to see the famous Moulin Rouge.
