Experience Budapest’s alternative culture and underground art on a small-group cultural walking tour. With your knowledgeable guide, you’ll explore districts in Budapest rarely visited by tourists. Learn about Budapest’s street art, architecture and graffiti scene, and see one of the most original alternative sites, an ex-Ukrainian cargo ship that’s now a popular music venue -- the A38 Ship. You’ll uncover Budapest's fascinating underground cultural life on this small-group walking tour, and see hidden places like the synagogues in the Jewish quarter. The tour also visits street art galleries and fashionable coffee shops and bars.

Highlights

  • Comprehensive tour of the city
  • Informative, friendly and professional guide
  • Small group ensures personal service
Together with your local guide, you’ll head away from the main tourist spots on this small-group tour to take a walk through Budapest’s Jewish district with its old synagogues, where the alternative culture of the Hungarian capital is in full flow. Traces of Jewish culture remain in Budapest, creating a unique religious and cultural atmosphere. Then discover Budapest’s alternative culture and art scene, visiting art and cultural centers, and street art galleries. Make a quick stop for a coffee in a fashionable bar (not included) and photo gallery.

Continue your walking tour through the former working-class districts which have been transformed into a hub of vibrant cultural life since communist days. Hear stories about the places where Budapest's underground scene started under the old regime.

Then, you'll walk across the River Danube to Buda, where you’ll visit the A38 Ship. The former Ukrainian cargo ship has been reincarnated into one of Budapest’s most important cultural centers and trendiest live music venues, and is where your tour will end.

Please note: Due to the nature of the tour and the places visited, the itinerary is subject to change without notice. This is to ensure that the tour highlights the newest and most impressive artworks and spaces.

Informative, entertaining and relaxed from the start, this tour was exactly the combination of artsy insights into today's city life and welcoming orientation exercise on new and exotic streets I was looking for. And my guide, media designer Dareios brought massive charm, wry humour and jaw-droopingly good English to the mix. His smart commentary added an authentic, young-local-artist perspective to the more official line about contemporary culture and its commercial successes, and as I was lucky enough to be the only customer on the freezing January afternoon I took the tour, he asked how he could tailor it my interests, and even invited me for an excellent Hungarian craft beer afterwards in a deeply cool bar in District 8 I'll probably never be able to find again. 11 out of 10 for customer service and canny chat. Thanks D.
