Departing from Rome, you will travel to Naples, famous for delivering the humble pizza to the rest of the world! It is a brazen yet vibrant city and the capital of the Campania region. Naples was first inhabited by the ancient Greeks, who gave it the name Neapolis or "new city".

Next, immerse yourself in the forgotten city of Pompeii. Buried under the ash from the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 B.C., the now preserved site gives historical insights into life during the Roman Empire.

Overlooking the bay of Naples, Sorrento is both a seaside resort town and a rich source of agricultural production. Take your pick of cafe-lined plazas and feast on locally harvested citrus fruit, wine, nuts and olives.

Before returning to Rome, you won't want to miss the Isle of Capri. Ever the crowd pleaser, it lures crowds to its Blue Grotto, so named for the azure limestone glow beneath its waters.

Itinerary:

Day 1: Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento (L, D)
After departing Rome, drive along the 'Sun Route' motorway and cross the regions of Lazio and Campania. Once in Naples, enjoy a short city tour before continuing towards Pompeii where lunch in a restaurant is provided. A UNESCO World Heritage listed site, Pompeii is one of the must-see attractions of Italy. You will visit the excavations of this world-famous Roman town, destroyed by the eruption of Mt. Vesuvius in 79 A.D. Next board the coach and travel along the Sorrentine Coast to Sorrento for dinner and overnight in a 4-star hotel.

Day 2: Sorrento, Capri, Sorrento, Rome (L)
After breakfast and weather permitting, arrive in Capri for a visit of the Blue Grotto via row boats. On the way back from Marina Grande harbor make your way to Anacapri, a tiny and picturesque Mediterranean-style village with views of the Gulf of Naples. After lunch is served in a restaurant in Capri, wander down quaint little streets and explore the famed Piazetta. Later, embark on the coach for the final time, back to Rome via Sorrento.

In the event of adverse weather conditions, the Blue Grotto trip will be replaced by a visit to the Faraglioni.
