At the beginning I felt we have been taken far away from the event, but later on i discovered that we really escaped the over crowdness and the drunk peoples.

An okay experience. I expected a guide who would try & get us in the party spirit, rather we had an interesting night tour of Vienna first, but it wasn't a party atmosphere on the bus. We were driven to the restaurant & were greeted by a pig's head in the fridge soon as we went through the door. I suppose when in Rome, but uggh! A fine spread was put on. Austrian entertainment seems to be one guy playing the fiddle & another playing the accordion, so if you're expecting a brass band played by a load of guys dressed in lederhosen like you get in Germany, you will be disappointed. Also if you're expecting a dramatic countdown to the New Year & everyone entwining arms & singing Auld Lang Syne, don't. I was there looking at my watch saying I think we're into the New Year before those at our table tapped glasses. So the 'build up' was really an anticlimax. Worse, we then saw loads of people leave & we couldn't understand why. Turns out our guide had omitted to tell us about the fireworks display the village of Grinzig outs on, but luckily we copped on & didn't miss much of it.

A bit dissapointing. They bundled you into buses according to your main language, drove the half an hour to the wine tavern. During this time the guide gave a brief overview of certain things in Vienna as we passed them on the bus. Once at the wine tavern we were sat at tables where entree on mixed cold meats and breads were waiting. We had to ask for some red wine white was already on the table, and no one explained what was happening. A while later dinner and desert came out on shared platters for the tables. When new year approached we were not guided to the fireworks or even notified if there was a countdown etc. We only found out because some others in the tavern did a countdown. We followed the crowd outside to see some local fireworks, then got back in the bus to be taken back to our hotels. The food was nice and the red wine was also good but the activity lacked direction from the guides. If you have a large group it would be better, and dont expect to be guided with what happens and when, you just have to go with the flow.

We were not impressed with the meal and the wine provided, our group hardly ate or drank. The waitresses were so busy they didn't have time to attend to you and we had trouble getting water. As we had come by coach we couldn't leave so just waited out our time. it would have been better booking the restaurant on the Danube tower or a restaurant in town. Most disappointing, and we would not recommend.
