This turned out to be a great family activity for us and a welcome break from the regular sightseeing. I give it 5 stars, but it's really the kind of thing you have to take stock of and decide whether it's your cup-of-tea. For us, it was perfect and scheduled right in the middle of a full week in Rome, so it broke things up. You definitely need to take a cab to the site. The school is in a lot off a long but small dead-end road. They called a cab to pick us up when we were finished. It is very modest in appearance, but it's well suited for a family-size group. Our host was an actual, trained and certified gladiator re-enactor. The museum was quite interesting, but don't expect high production values. The information was very informative and the host was entertaining and the exhibits were perfectly good. It isn't a fancy downtown museum. You're essentially in a workshop. If you want velvet ropes to guide you through a white tiled showroom, look elsewhere. If you want to learn about the gladiatorial arts from people who are intensely passionate about the subject, SIGN UP! After the exhibits, we went to the training grounds - a small replica arena where we did a very brief set of conditioning, followed by some obstacles and then we got trained in basic attacking and defensive moves, with various types of equipment, too. The techniques you learn are actually useful self-defense principles you might learn in a martial arts class...so that's pretty good. If you have the luxury of time and are looking for something that's different, a little quirky perhaps and appealing to all ages, young, old and the ever-difficult 'teenagers" - this may be just the ticket!

Absolutely brilliant! Took people's tips and got a taxi there - watch out for the sign and also the numbers on the houses. Our party was 2 adults and an 11 year old girl and a 9 year boy who has ADHD. Our trainer was absolutely wonderful - kept it all moving and varied, was brilliant with both kids. All of us had the best time. The museum was very hands on, and our kids loved it because of that, especially the helmets and the miniature catapults. We all thought it was the highlight of our trip to Rome. Many many thanks.

After a little difficulty finding the place, we should have got a cab from the beginning as suggested. We arrived at the Gadiator School. As we were the only ones booked for this session, we were a group of 3 adults and 4 kids we chose to have a fun class and it was. Everyone had a great time and we were all exhausted by the end of the session. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a bit of fun in Rome.

Nice family event. It was a lot of fun! We had a great instructor. It was a blast. He kept the whole group involved and we couldn't have had a better time. Even recommended an excellent restaurant for dinner! Would definitely do this again. Really top notch!
