Known for its beautiful stretch of beach, Copacabana is one of the most famous neighborhoods in Rio de Janeiro. Its 2.4 miles (4 km) of beach is one of the most famous stretches of sand in the world. On this small-group walking tour, you'll stroll along this iconic shore while learning about the rich history of Copacabana.
Your tour begins as you meet your guide near the end of Copacabana Beach. Your guide will lead you along the beach toward Copacabana Fort, which was completed in 1914 and where the first revolt of the old Brazilian Republic took place in 1922. You'll learn more about the Fort as well as about the history of the Copacabana district. As you head toward Arpoador Beach, you'll see a famous surfing spot known for its oversized waves; then walk over to the top of Arpoador Rock, where you'll take in the stunning view of Ipanema Beach. Here, you'll enjoy a beautiful sunset and a coconut water drink before continuing the walking tour.
Continue walking to General Osorio Square, one of the most popular spots in the Ipanema district. Enjoy this chance to see how the locals live by walking around the markets, restaurants and bars and sampling the Brazilian national drink, the Caipirinha!
