The hotel was fantastic. We got a suite with a view of Neuschwanstein. The bad side is that the tour operator never contacted us at the start of the tour. Someone finally told us that the supplier had subcontracted our package to another company. No one on that company's bus was doing the overnight tour, so we were kind of going along blindly. We did not know our schedule until we got to the hotel after Linderhof and Neuschwanstein the first day. It would have been nice if someone had contacted us at the beginning so that we knew what was going on. Overall, the hotel was very nice, and it was absolutely worth staying overnight to have a chance to enjoy swimming and boating in the Alpsee with the castles and the Alps around us.

The places low on my scale are Hohenschwangau and Linderhof. Hohenshwangau was a stocking-filler, nothing to recommend it unless you've got a fetish for tawdry Christmas baubles and gnomes-in-the-back-garden kind of thing. Neuschwanstein felt outlandishly Disneyland. But the views along the walk to the castle were worth it. A lot of time was wasted at this and other sites, waiting around for out turn to enter the "attractions". The reception at the hotel had problems finding our name on the reservation register, and to make matters worse, we were not given a voucher for the hotel as we boarded the bus at Munich. In the end, we decided it was more convenient to forgo the night even though the room was prepaid because we could not be sure if we could find another coach the following day to bring us back to Munich. Never again!
