I found the tour guide very knowledgable about the masterpieces we were seeing. It made the experience very worthwhile as there is so much to see, it would be impossible to see everything thouroughly. The expetise of the guide ensured that we saw the major pieces of art and understood their history.

My mother and I did a tour of the Renaissance art of the Uffizi gallery. The queue for the gallery tickets was at least 2 hours long and there were about 500 people waiting to go in. We however, met our guide without any problems, the meeting instructions were easy to follow, and we did indeed skip the line. Although the tour information says there can be up to 20 people on the tour, on this day there was only my mother and myself but the company still ran the tour for the same price, didn't change the date or cancel the tour because of the lack of numbers. Our guide was intelligent, articulate, well prepared with lots of information. She had studied art history at the gallery itself, and was very familiar with the paintings, pointing out things we would never have noticed otherwise. Our guide tailored her tour to our level of knowledge, interspersed with bits of "gossip" as she called it about the renaissance painters and their clients which was fun too. Even though we asked lots of questions we never managed to plumb the bottom of her knowledge, she always had more for us if we wanted it. She covered a big range of topics about the painters, the patrons and their families, the artistic development of the Renaissance, the techniques, the meaning of the paintings themselves without ever becoming high brow or unintelligable. The pace of the tour was just right, we had plenty of time to absorb the pictures despite some crowding, and we covered all the significant renaissance pictures in the gallery. This tour was the highlight of our trip to Florence, next time I am bringing my husband to do another tour! Well done Constanza and well done Viatour. UK August 2009
