Your Big Island adventure tour starts as you depart Honaunau Bay and listen to your local guide’s stories about Hawaiian history. Paddle along the coast until you reach Pu'uhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park. Anchor your kayak and spend time exploring this former place of refuge for lawbreakers. Stroll past remnants of its history, like the ancient temples and ki’i (carved wooden images).
Continue to St Benedict’s Painted Church, where Father Velghe’s paintings portray characters from the Bible. Father Velghe painted this church in 1842, and it continues the work he began more than a century ago.
Jump back in your kayak and paddle into a lava tube cave. Hawaii is known for having some of the world’s most spectacular lava cave formations, so you’ll have the opportunity to see these unique geological formations up close. Learn about the history of lava tubes and how they were formed.
After exploring the lava tube caves, return to Honaunau Bay to snorkel above colorful coral reefs, tropical fish and playful green Hawaiian sea turtles! Dive under the pristine water and get up close to this enchanting world of diverse marine life.
