Great guide with Mariko who was very knowledgable and very personable on the bus. Shame about the weather. Well organised and worth the money. Many thanks!

The trip started out bad with terrible, terrible traffic out of Tokyo and then again in the outskirts reaching Mt. Fuji. We left our hotel at 8am and ended up in our lunch site at 1pm! We didn't take the lunch option and headed for the small sandwich joint near the hotel. The food order is limited to a small box of Japanese fried chicken, corn dogs and a meat bun that wasn't too tasty. Stick with the fried chicken. Btw, my son had to take a bathroom break in between the 5 hour bus tour and the tour guide Asaku (?) stopped for him.
We were rewarded though with the beautiful view of Mt. Fuji. At least Mt. Fuji decided to show her beauty which I didn't get to experience in my first visit 2010. We had to cancel our trip to Komagatake Ropeway, Lake Ashi and Hakone trip because of the traffic delay. Instead we did a short cruise in Lake Kawaguchiko and did the Kachi Kachi Ropeway. The view was magnificent there. I would still recommend the trip because the traffic is not caused by the driver and tour guide anyway:-)

2 star rating: It was OK, but could have been better

The day started well and we were lucky to see the mountain. Initially the tour was very well organised with the pick up from the hotel on time and the staff very efficient at the bus terminal and . Early to mid-afternoon we then set off for the Hakone, where the lake is situated. There are plenty of things to see in this region but all we did for the rest of the day was to drive around dropping people off at hotels in the area. This took hours, and the passengers returning to Tokyo were getting very frustrated at being dragged into being a taxi service. One of the hotels was near Lake Ashi so we got a glimpse of the lake but there was no question of a cruise on it. The final insult after dropping people off at around 6 hotels in the Hokone area was to be told that the passengers returning to Tokyo would not be dropped off at their hotels themselves but instead be dropped off at a choice of 3 stations and to make our own way back. This was at around 8.30pm on a Sunday night.
It seemed that the organisers had tried to merge two different tours into one. There were two coaches making this trip: after the last Fuji stop one should have returned to Tokyo directly leaving the other on the mind-numbing Hokone hotel trawl.
