We had an excellent time on this tour. Be aware, it is all about paranormal sightings in recent times in the vaults - not a history of Edinburgh and ghosts of Edinburgh tour. It focuses on the vaults. And you even spend a little time yourselves "detecting" the ghosts. It was excellent and our guide was very entertaining and managed to keep the attention of a very mixed groups (couples, a stag party, and smal families) Would recommend.

I went with my mum and friend and at first wasnt taking it very serious, then the guide gave us the readers in groups and we went into a room and it went to 4 lights, later to be told that this was rare. I had volunteered to take the' last man out ' place and therefore was last into the 'black smiths room', as soon as i entered the room, my body went ice cold, especially at my back and legs, i informed the guide who the informed the group of the room, i moved around but the freezingness (so to say) followed me, my mum put her hand above my head and as she waved it through said she could feel the icy cold patch above me. We left the room and went to 'Mr Boots' room but i was still very drawn to the blacksmith room andas i was the back of the group, i took a look back down the tunnel to the previous room and heard a muffled noise and it got closer and closer, i relised it was rushing footsteps and i will be honest i ran away from it and into the room with the group,The guide had said about Mr Boots and his stomping but these footsteps where not heavy , i was a bit shaken by this but only infomed the guide about it as i left, but my group new of it as my mother had noticed how shaken i was. would recommend.

More of a how-people-were-tortured-and-executed tour. Tour guide did a good job with a somewhat superficial subject. Still, we learned a few things about olden times.

We booked this tour through Viator on arriving in Edinburgh and finding Mercat tours they informed us our tour had been taken off the listings...gutted we did phone up 24 hours before and it was running then, always call in beforehand! we took the historic vaults tour we did want the niddry wynds tour but it was only available at 10 that evening and we were up the next morning at 6 for an excursion so we had to do the earlier one Amelia our guide was very factual and although it wasn't the tour we booked it was enjoyable i did get what i wanted which was activity of a paranormal kind blowing on my face my jacket tugged and various other un determined accounts we will probably book again and this time do the niddry wynds with the ghostly happenings Mercat do some ace tours and the guides are fantastic just wish we had been able to do our original plan many thanks viator for choosing mercat as the tour company
