Itinerary:
Morning Tour - Uluru Walk (5 hours) OR Spirit of Uluru (4 hours):
- The Uluru Walk is a 9.5km or 6 mile guided walk around the complete base of Uluru. This comprehensive tour provides an opportunity to best understand the natural and cultural significance of Uluru. The guides will introduce you to the geology of Uluru and describe how plants and wildlife have adapted and survived in such a forbidding environment. But most fascinating is learning the relationship of the Anangu people to Uluru. Your guide will describe the creation time stories that unfold around Uluru and you can appreciate what a powerful and moving place this is. Departs Daily prior to sunrise, between 5:00am and 6:30am.
- The Spirit of Uluru is a vehicle based version of the Uluru Walk, that provides short walks to view rock art, waterholes and learn about the unique flora and fauna. Complete the tour with a visit to the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre. Departs Daily prior to sunrise, between 5:00am and 6:30am.
You can choose either one of the above morning tours in conjunction with the following afternoon tour.
Afternoon Tour - The Kata Tjuta Encounter (3 hours):
This tour is designed to arrive back to Ayers Rock Resort approximately half an hour before the Sounds of Silence dinner, so that there is time for those booked on the dinner to freshen up.The tour departs early afternoon for the domes of Kata-Tjuta (the Olgas). As you arrive at Walpa Gorge (Olga Gorge) your guide will descibe the geology of the area and how it has evolved over millions of years. As you walk through the Gorge learn how the Aboriginal people used the plants of the area in their daily life. Short walk through Walpa Gorge (Olga Gorge) included.
Afternoon Tour - Mount Conner Outback Safari (7 hours):
Mount Conner, the third of the great monoliths, is 100 kilometers (62 miles) east of Uluru and on the western fringe of the vast cattle station, Curtin Springs. As the tour follows the stations' 4WD tracks, you will discover vast salt lakes that are remnants of ancient inland oceans, examine fossilized remains of the oldest life forms on earth, but best of all, experience Australia's rugged outback. Circling Mount Connor, you'll be surprised to find a hidden side with a series of rugged gorges, a perfect haven for small populations of Red Kangaroos and Rock Wallabies. Due to the dams built for watering cattle, wildlife is more prevalent here than in the desert. Your 4WD grinds and bounces its way to a high lookout giving view over the vast, arid desert on into South Australia. Before the sun sets, reach the ruins of the first homestead. A hole in the sand hills and a pile of sandstone chimney blocks are all that remain, in what seems like the loneliest place in the world. With the imposing Mount Conner changing color in the background and a rusty windmill churning quietly, we toast the sunset with complimentary champagne and wonder how lonely yet splendid, it would have been to live in such a place. Then, in the gathering night, we drive to Curtin Springs, where in the kitchen built from parts of the old homestead, we enjoy a three-course dinner prepared by the station cook, before returning to Ayers Rock Resort. Departs Daily, mid-afternoon between 2:00pm and 3:00pm.
Evening Tour - Sounds of Silence Dinner (3 hours):
Dine under the canopy of the desert night, while your very own storyteller shares the tales of humanity as told in the stars. Entered into the Australian Tourism Hall of Fame, Sounds of Silence offers the best of the Red Centre distilled into four magical hours. An unforgettable evening, eating beautifully prepared food under the sparkling outback sky. Departs Daily, 45 minutes prior to sunset.
Each tour departs between the above mentioned times. Exact time is dependent on the time of the year.
Suggested Itinerary: Most flights arrive and depart Ayers Rock around lunchtime. This enables you to begin touring Kata Tjuta (the Olgas) the afternoon you arrive, with the Sounds of Silence dinner in the evening. This can be followed by an Uluru morning tour and the Mount Conner Outback Experience in the afternoon. Stay overnight at Ayers Rock Resort, and enjoy free time the following morning for any additional sightseeing, before departing for other destinations in the afternoon. You can also choose to include round trip airport transfers.
