Named one of the seven modern wonders of the world by the American Society of Civil Engineers, the Panama Canal is a must-see when in Panama City. The construction began in 1880 by the French, although the project was finally completed by the United States in 1914.

This half-day tour is specifically focused on the historic aspects of the Panama Canal. After leaving your hotel, you'll head to Colonial Zone, or “Casco Viejo,” where the French built their houses in the late 19th century. The Frenchman Plaza, located here, boasts a breathtaking 180-degree view from the Bridge of the Americas (Pacific door of the Canal) to the Modern City and the Old Panama quarter.

The Panama Canal has many interesting surrounding landmarks, including the Interoceanic Museum, the Palacio de Las Garzas (the President of Panama's official office), the enchanted Balboa area and the Panama Canal Administration Building. You'll have time to capture various pictures of the canal itself, as well as of the famous Panama Canal Locks. The locks, known to be one of the greatest engineering innovations of the time, were built in 1909, 22 years prior to the start of the complex building of the Hoover Dam.

At the museum, you'll study the collection of pieces and documents related to the Panama Canal construction, including the Torrijos-Carter treaty, and see how they have contributed to its construction and development. Finally, the tour heads to Miraflores Locks, where you'll see the operation of the Panama Canal in action, offering a chance to make this experience even richer.
