Your exciting day begins at the Visitors Center in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, where you will receive a tour orientation. The next stop will be our biking starting point will be at the Kilauea Overlook, where you will get your first glance of the incredible Summit Caldera eruption.
Here you will also receive an informative overview of the eruption history at the summit. Next, you'll be fitted for a 2008 Giant Sedona DX comfort mountain bike and safety equipment, and receive a safety briefing. Then your expert Interpretive Guide will escort you on an historical tour of the currently erupting Kilauea Caldera.
Off you go on an off-road trail to Jagger Museum, the closest point to the eruption. We will explore the museum, see interpretive exhibits on Hawaiian volcanoes and the work of the Hawaiian Volcano Observatory. From the museum you will continue on a off road trail along the rim of the Caldera to the Steam Vents, where you'll literally feel the heat of the volcano.
The adventure continues through the native Hawaiian rainforest section of the Summit. You will travel on a paved trail along the edge of the Summit Caldera on roads that partially collapsed in 1982 earthquake.
Our bike course then rejoins Crater Rim Drive where you will bike through a lush, ancient Hawaiian Fern Forest. Your next stop will be at the Kilauea Iki Crater Overlook. Here you will see the cinder cone Pu'u Pua'i and an incredible view of this crater.
The voyage continues as you wind your way through the rainforest and down the Chain of Craters Road. You will see several large pit craters, a lava shield volcano, and lava trees during this part of the tour.
Our bike trail ends at Mau Loa O Mauna Ulu where you'll experience the massive Mauna Ulu lava flow. There are many stops along bike course to view and photograph this incredible volcanic scenery, and learn about the history of this ever-changing dynamic landscape.
Time to relax, our air condition van will take you the rest of the way to the ocean to the end of the Chain of Craters Road where the 2003 lava flow has crossed the road. Along the way you will see awesome panoramic views of the Ka'u coastline.
You be served a delectable lunch oceanside where there is a good possibility of spotting the amazing Humpback Whales that visit the Hawaiian islands during the months of October through May. If Madame Pele (Volcano Goddess) allows, you will also see active lava flowing into the Pacific Ocean.
We will then return to the summit by van and pay a visit to the famous Thurston Lava Tube. At this stop we will take a short optional walk through the giant fern forest and literally walk through this outrageous lava tube.
More relaxation, our last stop will be wine tasting at a local Hawaiian winery. We will then bid you a warm 'A hui hou'(until we meet again) as we return you back to your point of origin.
