The Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary is located in the center of the Gold Coast, nestled within 27 hectares (67 acres) of landscaped bushland catering for over 1400 mammals, birds and reptiles. The sanctuary really comes alive at night with 75% of the wildlife nocturnal, this is a thrilling way to see Australia’s unique native wildlife up close and also enjoy a night of traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Island culture.
Your evening begins with a welcome ceremony and didgeridoo performance. This will be followed by a Kup Murri demonstration and introduction to the cooking methods of the Torres Strait Islander people. Kup Murri is the traditional method of in cooking meats, seafood and vegetables in an earth oven. You’ll also learn about native bush food and vegetation.
Enjoy a traditional Aboriginal dance performance around the campfire. You’ll then have the opportunity to feed the kangaroos, cuddle a koala and hold a salt water crocodile.
The Kup Murri dinner will then be served. Enjoy the delicious selections of meat and vegetables cooked in the ground accompanied with a selection of fresh salad and fruit. This is a dining experience you will never forget.
