2-Day Uluru and Kata Tjuta Camping Safari

Experience the heart of the ‘Red Center’ on a two-day camping safari from Alice Springs. See the iconic Uluru (Ayers Rock) at sunset and the sunrise over the magical colored domes of Kata Tjuta (the Olgas). Explore ancient caves with paintings and discover the indigenous culture through guided walks.

Day 1: Alice Springs to Yulara (L, D)
Depart Alice Springs and head south, stopping for a short visit at the Outback Camel Farm. Discover the tradition of the pioneering cameleers who first introduced camels to Australia in the 19th century. Hop onboard a ship-of-the-desert for a short camel ride (at own expense) before continuing onto the permanent campsite at Yulara, to camp for the night. Later in the afternoon explore the base of Uluru, see ancient caves where Aboriginal paintings can be seen, and learn about the oldest culture in the world. Enjoy sunset drinks as you watch the spectacular color changes of Uluru. Later return to camp for a traditional Aussie barbecue. After dinner, relax around the camp under starry desert skies.

Day 2: Yulara to Alice Springs (B, L)
This morning rise in the early darkness for breathtaking views of Kata Tjuta at sunrise. See the landscape come to life with the rising sun, coloring the domes of Kata Tjuta in shades of reds and oranges. Take a walk through the meandering Walpa Gorge for spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. Hear the Dreamtime stories of the cork-tree women, whose hair can be seen trailing down the sides of the domes, and learn about the rare native plants dotted along the pathways that are used for traditional medicines. Return to the campsite for lunch before traveling to either Ayers Rock Resort or Alice Springs where the tour concludes.
